Bell is a traditional percussion instrument in China. The characteristics of Chinese clocks are that the clock itself does not move when it is struck by wooden vertebrae outside the clock; unlike most Western clocks, there are long tongues inside the clock, which pull the clock and tongue, which contact and make sound during shaking. After continuous development, the clocks in modern Chinese Buddhist temples are basically two kinds of big and small clocks. The big clock is usually suspended in the bell tower. The individual is large. Generally speaking, it must be at least about one meter and five meters high, and the diameter is about half of the height. There are copper and iron castings, most of them are made of copper, and the heavy ones are often more than ten thousand jin. Typical example: the existing "Yongle bell" of juesheng temple in Beijing is a large copper bell with a height of 6.75 meters, an external diameter of 3.30 meters and a weight of about 46.5 tons. A large copper bell with the name of "Youming bell" in Xiantong temple, Wutai Mountain, Shanxi Province, weighs 9999.5 Jin. In addition, a large iron bell of Wanghai temple in Wutai mountain can be called the representative work of iron bell. All three bells were made in Ming Dynasty. |
